Google held the I/O 22 conference last week, where it presented a lot of hardware, but only in the second row. Because this is primarily a developer's conference, similar to Apple's WWDC, the main thing was software, so Android could not be missing either. The funny thing is that Apple's iOS has long had many new features.

Of course, this is not possible without mutual inspiration. Even though Android is now copying from iOS, certain elements inspired Apple enough to incorporate them into its iOS. And not a small one. Thanks to Android, we have widgets and a notification or control center on iPhones. But the following features announced by Google as part of its opening keynote will probably be familiar to you.

Protection of personal data

Google just introduced a whole set of new features to protect user privacy. Of course, these are supposed to make the Android platform much safer, but still such that it respects the wishes of the user as much as possible. For example, the company is adding a new photo selection tool that lets apps access only the photos and videos and other media they choose. Apps will also need to request permission to send notifications.

Emergency SOS

Safety once again, but a little differently. Emergency SOS is a newly introduced function of Google, but it seems to have fallen out of the eye of the Apple Watch. The function uses data from the accelerometer to detect car accidents or other types of accidents and alerts emergency services based on them. The Apple Watch has had a similar feature for a long time, although it is not specifically aimed at car accidents.

End encryption

Apple uses end-to-end encryption in iMessage and FaceTim, i.e. on iOS priority communication services. But Android device users had to rely on third-party apps like WhatsApp or Signal for encrypted and secure text messages. Now, with the launch of Rich Communication Services (RCS), Android users will finally have encrypted messages by default. But a lot also depends on the willingness of the operators, how quickly they will introduce this function.

Google Wallet

The renaming of the Google Pay function to Google Wallet received a great response, even though this platform was called that before Android Pay, which subsequently became Google Pay. So the company is going back to its roots here, so you can't quite say that it's copying Apple's virtual wallet name. However, it is different with functions. It's still a one-stop shop for credit, debit and transport cards, as well as vaccination cards and event tickets, but following Apple's lead, ID cards and passes will also be added. He announced this functionality at last year's WWDC21.

Better integration

One of the biggest strengths of Apple products is their mutual communication, from the Handoff function to AirDrop to fast pairing and switching of AirPods. It is from this that Android 13 will also take an appropriate dose of inspiration and enable its devices to better cooperate and communicate with other products in the home. This should include TVs, speakers, laptops and cars.
