3D Touch technology debuted in the iPhone 6s almost four years ago. Since then, it has essentially become an integral part of iPhones. The breakthrough came only last year, when Apple introduced the iPhone XR with the Haptic Touch function, which, however, does not react to the force of the press, but only to its duration. And as the growing number of clues indicate, Haptic Touch will begin to expand to new iPhone models, at the expense of 3D Touch.
About the end of the 3D Touch lifecycle began to speculate practically immediately after Apple introduced the iPhone XR last fall. The information was then confirmed by a reputable server at the beginning of this year The Wall Street Journal. Now the server also comes with the same claim MacRumors, respectively a team of analysts from Barclays, which refers to Apple's supplier. They are already preparing for the production of new iPhones and thus know basically all the technologies that this year's models will have, and therefore will not have.
The current 3D Touch will be replaced by the slightly less sophisticated Haptic Touch, which, although it also offers feedback with the help of a haptic engine, only reacts to the time of pressing. When compared to 3D Touch, the functionality of Haptic Touch is similar in many ways, but it lacks some specific functions, such as calling up the context menu on the application icon, the Peek & Pop function for previewing the content or the ability to mark text using the keyboard (only moving the cursor works).
Why Apple wants to remove the 3D Touch feature from its phones remains a question for now. In the case of the iPhone XR, the absence of technology makes sense - the application of this solution to an already complex LCD panel is more than complex and therefore the company decided on a software solution. However, at least two models of this year's iPhones should undoubtedly offer an OLED display again, and Apple has already proven twice in a row that it can implement 3D Touch in these panels. The real reason may just be the tendency to reduce production costs.
As a result, I don't mind haptic touch. But I get a lot of use out of scrolling on the keyboard and I'd really miss that. If they cancel it, they will have to offer me much better innovations
At least on the Xr it is replaced by haptic touch.
You're kidding me. 3D touch made controlling the phone quite special. No one else offers something like this and it looks interesting. Not only that. I often use 3D touch to preview and call up menus from icons, e.g. favorite contacts, quick Shazam and the like. The removal of this technology makes me really sad. But so what. Haptic touch is just a fancy name for simply holding onto an object. Um
