Change the default application

macOS includes several native applications that are of course set as default. Of course, not everyone is comfortable with these applications, so users install third-party applications. In this case, how you can change the default application for a specific file type can come in handy. First find it, then on it right click and select an option from the menu Information. In the next window, click on the section Open in the application a choose from the menu the one you want to use. Then don't forget to tap on Change all…

Choose your wallpaper and saver

With each new major update, macOS offers new wallpapers to choose from to personalize your Mac. Alternatively, you can of course set your own wallpaper. To choose a wallpaper or screen saver, go to  → System Preferences → Desktop and Saver, where, as needed, move to the Desktop or Screensaver section at the top, where you just have to choose from ready-made wallpapers or savers. If you would like to set your own wallpaper image, just click on it right click and choose Set desktop image.

Set your active corners

They say that if you want to control your Mac to the maximum, you must use keyboard shortcuts to minimize the need to constantly move to the mouse or trackpad. In addition to keyboard shortcuts, many users also use Active Corners to increase efficiency and quickly perform some actions. They work in such a way that after "bumping" the cursor into one of the corners of the screen, the selected action will be performed. You can set this function in  → System Preferences → Mission Control → Active Corners…, where you just have to choose an action in the menu at each corner.

Rotate scroll

If you've switched to a Mac from a classic Windows computer, one of the first things you've probably noticed is inverted scrolling, for example on the web. On a Mac, moving your fingers up moves you down and moving your fingers down moves you up, while on Windows it's the other way around. There are long debates about which way is correct, and most individuals say that it is the macOS one. However, if you would like to reverse the scrolling, in the case of a trackpad, just go to  → System Preferences → Trackpad → Pan & Zoom, where disable Scroll direction: natural. To change the mouse shift, go to  → System Preferences → Mouse, where disable Scroll direction: natural.

Top bar management

macOS includes a special bar at the top of the display, otherwise known as the menu bar. In this bar, there can be various icons that give you quick access to various applications, functions, options, services, etc. Of course, you can fully customize the top bar and have different things displayed on it. You can manage the top bar in  → System Preferences → Dock and Menu Bar, where you just need to go through the individual sections in the left menu and (de)activate the display. To change the order of the icons in the top bar, hold Command and move the icon as needed, to remove it, just hold Command, take the icon with the cursor and move it downwards, away from the top bar.
